A still image from a viral Little Caesar's commercial, featuring a man in a gray polo shirt with the caption "There's no rules!"

This isn't official or a Word of CA wiki - that's what the official wiki is for. Generally, if you're not misbehaving or adding blatantly wrong information, you don't need to worry about getting your edits reverted or banned. The below are largely suggestions if you're looking for guidelines and/or want to save the maintainers some trouble.

English

The game is in US English and many of the contributors are American, so US English is the default - however, we really don't care. If you're like me and do like a formal style guide for your own consistency, use Chicago. Citations are not required anywhere (the majority of facts will either come from the game itself or the official wiki) but you're welcome to add them.

Please name new pages in title case, i.e., first and last words Capitalized, all major words (i.e., not prepositions, conjunctions or articles) Capitalized. E.g., "Tutorial: How to Add Bits and Bobs to the Game". It makes the admin sad when they see all lowercase page names. :( Starting your page title with the type (e.g., Tutorial:, Recommendations:) is not required but recommended. Note, if you are adding a template, please start with "Modding Template:" and not just "Template:", because the wiki will get confused and think it's a template for it, not a template for mod users.

Categories

Please tag your tutorials or lists with the appropriate categories. For tutorials, we have 1.6 Tutorials for current, up to date tutorials, as well as Beginner Tutorials, Intermediate Tutorials, and Advanced Tutorials for level of difficulty. We also have sub-categories like Code, Content Patcher, Events, and Translations to make your tutorial easier to find. Please do not add additional categories - if you think of one that has a use, reach out to the admin and they can set it up.

For recommendation lists, use 1.6 Recommendation Lists and Personal Mod Recommendations or Themed Mod Recommendations, depending on the type.

For templates, PLEASE use Category:Modding Templates and not "Templates", as you will again confuse the wiki (and probably the admin.)

Personal Mod Lists

Personal mod lists should be tagged as such and have the listmaker's name in the page title. Please do NOT edit personal mod lists unless it is for maintenance purposes (i.e., fixing a broken link or adding a category.)

Themed Mod Lists

Themed mod lists can be edited by anyone, but please be respectful of any stated scope (e.g., for NPCs from Popular Media, it specifically does not include replacers or non-EN NPCs, so please don't add them.)

Tutorials and Templates

Tutorials and templates can be edited by anyone. If it's been largely created and edited by one person who is active in the community, it'd be polite to reach out to them if you want to edit, though.

Small pages and duplication of info

A page doesn't have to be large, especially when it's first starting out - however, consider whether the topic has much to say in the first place that isn't already covered elsewhere, like the mod description, the mod's wiki, or the official wiki. For example, we generally don't have pages dedicated to individual mods, because they usually don't have any unique content and often get outdated without regular maintenance. Please don't copy content from other wikis - generally, content on other wikis (such as basic facts about the game or specific mod info) is out of scope for this wiki.

Uploading images

You are welcome to upload images for use on your pages! Please do not use it for personal image hosting, temporary hosting, or things that aren't used on a page, otherwise they'll be removed during regular maintenance. If you uploaded an image you no longer need, please reach out to the admin and they will be happy to yeet it for you.

When uploading images, please select an appropriate license - game assets should choose the "Game" option, while images that are largely mod content should use CC-BY-NC-ND. If the image is your own assets (e.g., your art from your own mod, a screenshot of your computer file layout you took), you are welcome to license however you please. (We do still recommend CC-BY-NC-ND specifically because that keeps Fandom from scraping our images.)

Linking to Nexusmods

This wiki has a special wikitext setup for linking to Nexusmods.com. Rather than pasting the entire URL, input: [[nexus:modID number|mod name]].

For example - to link to Content Patcher, with url https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/1915, you would input:
[[nexus:1915|Content Patcher]], which results in Content Patcher.
