This page is a STUB. Feel free to add your own tips and tricks for how to get started with SMAPI coding!
Stray blacksmith (code modders) advice on getting started with SMAPI coding (C#):
- SoloLearn is a good interactive tutorial website that also has an app. You can use it for all kinds of stuff including C#.
- The "baby's first C# mod" tutorial on the other wiki, Pineapples Everywhere, won't teach you coding but it will get you setup to write C# mods.
- Look at game code and poke at it. You can decompile the game code, and of course if you have the Mod Author role in the main Stardew Valley Discord server and reached level 50, you can get access to the private Github repository and poke at the code that way.
On the books front:
- Calcite noted Murach books has a couple chapters available for download for free that walk you through making some simple C# apps. You have to click the "free downloads" button.
- Atravita recommends the Yellow Book for C#, which is great and free.
